Lesnar vs Dos Santos Breakdown & Opinion

Being someone who could care less about "breaking MMA news," I would like to analyze this official match-up now that the immediate announcement frenzy has passed over us fans.

It will be interesting to see how the TUF show plays out, although I'm sure some of it will be rather predictable: with the likable good guy - Junior Dos Santos, versus the bearded bad guy - Brock Lesnar.  I see Lesnar embarrassing himself on several occasions during the course of the show, while JDS remains cool and collected, as usual, building his fan base and shaking Lesnar with a mixture of his stoic confidence and personable nature.

Great, with that out of the way: The Fight Analysis

Brock Lesnar has certainly "proven" himself in MMA. He threw himself directly into the fire, facing and defeating a number of the best heavyweight fighters the UFC has to offer. Shane Carwin showed the major "c****" in his armor at UFC 116 and then Cain Velasquez tore it open and exposed Lesnar's weaknesses for all to see at UFC 121. His stand-up is simply not good enough for him to compete against the better strikers in the division. He lunges forward with flying knees that have literally no chance of connecting and is beaten to the punch every time when facing strikers the caliber of Velasquez, Carwin or JDS. Since it appears that he will be sticking with MMA and not returning to wrestle-tainment, there is plenty of room for him to improve and he will be granted the time to do so, as the fight between him and Dos Santos will not take place for another 5 months. This time will be very valuable for Brock Lesnar. Perhaps when we see him next, he will not flinch at every strike thrown his way.

Junior "Cigano" Dos Santos is the most devastating striker on the UFC's heavyweight roster. He takes on all comers and has thus far posted a 6-0 record in UFC action. He has stopped 5 of those 6 opponents with his striking. He trains with an outstanding MMA camp at Black House/Team Nogueira, is still in the developmental stages in his MMA career and is afraid of nothing when in the octagon... I believe, along with many others, that JDS is a tremendous talent and that if he can show that he has a backup plan when/if his fists fail, then he could go on to be a dominant heavyweight champion.

Now, on to the fight...

Brock Lesnar can no doubt out-wrestle Junior Dos Santos. We all know his wrestling credentials, but most of us also know that JDS is a jiu jitsu brown belt, as well as being an extremely powerful individual. If/when Lesnar takes him down, will Lesnar truly be able to control him while landing shots and avoiding submissions? I do not believe so. Dos Santos's ground strength and jiu jitsu prowess may be called into play for the first time in a UFC fight (IF he is not able to stop Lesnar before he is taken down) and I just don't see him being controlled for 3 straight rounds.

Junior Dos Santos gets the edge in the following categories:
Speed, Striking, Submissions, CHIN

Brock Lesnar has the edge here:
Wrestling, Physical Strength

Who do YOU pick to win this fight???
